The first teaser trailer for Annihilation has been released and has us filled enough questions that would make Lost proud. The teaser manages to pack in plenty of great tense and suspenseful moments in it’s 1:46 duration so consider us hooked.
Throughout the trailer, we see several of the films stars like Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Oscar Isaac but we don’t hear a tremendous amount of dialogue – great for maintaining the suspense factor. We see a team of what looks like armed investigators crossing a field then entering another field that has a barrier that looks like the Northern Lights almost. Then we see the team in different areas from a forest to a beach, doing what they do. Save for a couple of scenes that shows them looking a few things, things look like they go downhill pretty for them pretty quickly.
During the teaser for Annihilation, I read the text that it was based on the “acclaimed best-selling novel” which peaked my interest immediately. I’ve never heard of it so naturally I went to the internet for a little research on the book. What I found was that Annihilation is the first book of a trilogy from author Jeff VanderMeer. The trilogy is called the Southern Reach Trilogy which includes this story then Authority followed by Acceptance. If you’re curious like me, feel free to check those links out but be warned: the link for Annihilation does offer a bit of potential (albeit fascinating) insight to the story.
