In the 80’s, one of the greatest games ever was born – Dragon’s Lair. The game was available and made for the laserdisc media that existed back then. The game’s premise was pretty simple and even sounded like a animated movie:
The game’s protagonist Dirk the Daring is a knight attempting to rescue Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe who has locked the princess in the foul wizard Mordroc’s castle. – IMDb.com
Now as wee gamer myself, I absolutely remember seeing the very large laserdisc cover for the game and just being in absolute awe. I mean, it looked like a sweet cartoon that I just had to watch! And that was the magical essence that the game’s animator Don Bluth captured. Along with producer friend Gary Goldman, the duo took the best of animation and combined it with super simple (yet amazingly difficult) game controls. It was and remains truly fantastic and a very big part of my childhood and gaming nostalgia.
After many years of Bluth and Goldman hearing screams of Dragon’s Lair fans everywhere demanding a movie, the fathers of one of the best games ever have agreed to try to do it. A Dragon’s Lair: The Movie Kickstarter has been created! The goal is $550,000 and as of this writing they have $61,711 with 29 days to go. With your help, this campaign will enable Bluth and Goldman to get a video proposal made so they can present it to the powers-that-be. And if everything goes to plan we’ll get a full, animated feature length movie!
So what are you waiting for? Dirk needs our help!
