A while back, while looking at a very popular social media where you can “like” things, I noticed a very cool looking nightlight. Yes, I said nightlight. I couldn’t believe what I was looking at – a cool replica of Thor’s hammer (with amazing detail) that lit up as a nightlight when turned on! My inner ‘nerd alarm’ went off like crazy and led me to try and find out who was behind such awesomeness. It didn’t take long to find 3DlightFX! Once I saw their Marvel lights (which consists of all-time favorites like Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man) I was hooked and knew I would need to keep up with them to see the next terrific line of lights they would come out with…….and they didn’t disappoint. As a youngster, I grew up a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan and as a result, to this day the “Green Team” still hold a dear place in my geeky heart. I’m always on the lookout for Turtle news and being a fan, imagine my excitement when I heard about 3DlightFx releasing a line of their 3D Deco Lights featuring the four heroes, thanks to a new Nickelodeon partnership last month! Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are busting their way out of the cartoon world and coming right through your wall to provide fans a “Hero in a Half Shell” presence right in their home!
This Canadian company – started by a Dad who wanted to provide a “safe, functional and inspiring environment for his son” – has been gaining huge popularity in the nerd and geek community for designs and once you see who they are and what they have to offer – it’s easy to understand why. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes of who 3DlightFX is:
3DlightFX is the leader in innovative lighting solutions bringing nightlights into the spotlight so homes and creative spaces can proudly display them day and night. Known for their realistic appearance and crack stickers that give the illusion that the light is busting through the wall, 3DlightFX’s line of 3D Deco Lights include regulation size sports balls and pucks, cars and jets, branch and butterfly combos, and most recently a range of superhero and action figure inspired products.
We received the Raphael Deco Light in the mail and eagerly opened the shipping box. Inside, we found the actual package containg Raph in super colorful packaging. His snarky face was front and center in the see-through window and the back of the box showed the faces of all the heroes that you can collect.
We found the light, instructions, the two screws and wall anchors, and the piece de resistance: the crack sticker. This premium vinyl decal is the homebase of the light fixture itself. The decal is what gives the 3D look of the Turtles crashing through your wall. I found the instructions super easy to follow and in no time my light was on the wall and looking great. You may notice the wrinkles on my decal but that was due to the texture of my wall which is very slight. The company advises against trying place the sticker on a textured, rough, or dirty wall (and I agree). It’s best to pick an as smooth as possible wall for the application to make sure it’s stuck well. The only tool you will need is a simple drill for the two holes (marked on the sticker in the image below) and that’s it. For those of you who may be a little weary about placing the vinyl sticker on your wall….never fear. Any worries can be laid to rest by reading up on the 3DlightFX FAQ page.
Several things about these lights make them incredibly appealing to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or child status. I mean, I’m 34 years old and totally have this on my wall and have been complemented on it numerous times in the several days I have had it. First off, they look cool when the light is off…..
and even cooler when the light is on….
The thing is you can’t wrong with these guys. Cordless functionality so there’s no worrying about ugly wires or looking for an outlet, the easily replaceable batteries that are going to last a while, and the bulbs that make the light glow thanks them being LEDs. And speaking of those LEDs, they’re going to have some serious illumination life: around 40,000 hours worth! All that combined with the fact that these 3D Deco Lights are always cool to the touch no matter how long you leave them on, and you have the only line of nightlights that can make me say….cowabunga dude! (you knew that word was coming eventually)
These lights are better than an anchovy and banana pizza (yes i said that too). If you’re looking to add spark of nerd life to your little ninja-in-training’s room or if you’re like us and can really just appreciate the wow-factor that these stylish decorative lights can bring, than look no further than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 3D Deco Lights. The lights are available now exclusively at Target where you can pick up the heroes for $29.99 each. And be sure keep your eyes out because 3DlightFX isn’t done with these guys yet!
