May 4th Might be NERD Christmas

Earlier this week I wrote about Free Comic Book Day, but it wasn’t until I finished and posted that article that I really put two and two together.  Free Comic Book Day is on Saturday, May 4th and May the 4th is already a NERD holiday – Star Wars day! What a mash-up!!!

In case you weren’t already aware, May 4th has some history behind it. I tracked down this little tidbit over on

Say “May the 4th Be With You” out loud and you’ll hear the pun that Star Wars fans worldwide have turned into a rallying cry to proclaim their love of the saga. It’s the worldwide day to say “May the Force be with you” to all, and celebrate the beloved Star Wars story that binds our galaxy together.

One of the earliest known records of “May the 4th” used in popular culture is in 1979, as described here by author Alan Arnold while he was chronicling the making of The Empire Strikes Back for Lucasfilm

Prepping for the Big Day

Like any holiday, it is only appropriate that you dress appropriately.  On July 4th you wear your red, white and blue. During Halloween you sport the orange and black. So, for Star Wars day, shouldn’t you suit up with the right gear?

Here are a few of the top places to get your Star Wars gear, along with some of our favorite choices:

ShopEcko – Marc Ecko has some awesome clothing already (I buy most of my stuff from them) but nothing beats his StarWars Collection
* These options are a little pricey, but keep an eye out for sales, which they seem to run once every couple of weeks.

StandUp2Cancer – Use the Force for Good (their line, not mine) and support a great charity for the big day with shirts from the StandUp2Cancer Shop

Other Options

Of course, the shirts and hoodies you see above are just the tip of the iceberg, and honestly not the cheapest by far.  Here are some other options for your holiday shopping:

Target – I know I’ve seen some Yoda and Darth Vader shirts there recently

Thrift Shops – You and Macklemore might get lucky with something that your parents threw out

Etsy – I have seen some amazing choices (particularly for the ladies) on this site

eBay – there are always great deals out there on this auction site, including some “gently used” items from the same shops shown above

If you have any other great shops or websites you would like to suggest, please do so in the comments below and maybe we’ll add them to the article.  Thanks and #MayThe4thBeWithYou
