Sylvester Stallone will once again try to prove that you can not only teach an old dog new tricks, but you can also outfit that dog with a really big gun, badass UFC-style fight moves, and a slew of high-tech gadgets. This will be the third outing for Sly and company when Expendables 3 hits theaters this August.
To me, the first film was actually pretty good. It was cool seeing all these tried and true action stars come together the first time. The second film was a little lacking but then again, a person goes to see these films for pure entertainment purposes and not to try and ponder the meaning of life right? Unfortunately, due to salary issues there will be no Bruce Willis playing the role of Mr. Church but Stallone found someone else to fill those shoes rather quickly. Both of the first two movies were enjoyable and this teaser trailer for the third looks like it will follow in the other’s footsteps. And with the addition of Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, and yes….Mel Gibson, this could be the biggest, loudest, and best one yet!
Some interesting notes from the Expendables 3 IMDb:
- Nicolas Cage was considered for the role of “Bonaparte” before Kelsey Grammer was cast.
- Sylvester Stallone offered a supporting role to Jackie Chan but Chan refused because he wanted to play a lead role.
- Milla Jovovich turned down the role of Camilla due to her commitments on “Resident Evil 6” and “Cymbeline”.
- In addition to his role of main villain, Mel Gibson was offered the chance to direct the film but he declined.
Release Date: August 15, 2014
Synopsis: Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables — but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.
