Next January, Disney brings us an epic tale of Coast Guard history in The Finest Hours. The story is based on Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias’ best-selling book about an incredible act of courage involving a massive rescue mission off the coast of Cape Cod in 1952.
I saw this trailer for the first time before Ant-Man and literally found myself holding my breath until it ended. This looks incredible. We’ve seen this type of movie before but The Finest Hours looks to set itself apart from the rest. Director Craig Gillespie (Fright Night) helms the picture with writers Eric Johnson, Scott Silver, and Paul Tamasy – all three of whom were the writers for The Fighter. The cast is led by Chris Pine along with Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, Eric Bana, and Casey Affleck. In the this first trailer we see just about everyone (though mostly Pine) and we even hear Pine’s “wicked smart” Boston accent. Not bad Chris. A great sneak peek, this trailer The Finest Hours looks to make major “waves” on grand scale reminiscent of what we got with The Perfect Storm. So far so good…

In February of 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, damaging an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod and literally ripping it in half. On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel.
