A certain Maze Runner is about to take a page out of the “Bourne Book of Badassery” this September. Dylan O’Brien plays Mitch Rapp in American Assassin, which follows Rapp through the CIA black ops world as a recruit. When some “bad shit happens”, he gets hungry for terrorist revenge. Such a mission requires training and said training comes from Stan Hurley played by Michael Keaton. From the glimpse we see in the trailer – Hurley knows how to hurt.
A lot of the action and pace of American Assassin is very, very reminiscent of a mashup that would include John Wick meets Jason Bourne……..which is absolutely not a problem for us. The film is directed by Michael Cuesta whose work includes Homeland and Dexter. The action kicks off September 15th.

Twenty three-year-old Mitch lost his parents to a tragic car accident at the age of fourteen, and his girlfriend to a terrorist attack just as they were engaged. Together they will later on investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on military and civilian targets. The discovery of a pattern in the violence leads them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent to stop a mysterious operative intent on starting a world war in the Middle East. — IMDb.com
