The Elysium trailer hit the web just a few hours ago and can I just say “yes please!.
Matt Damon and Jodie Foster headline the new film from the director of District 9. It really looks like Neill Blomkamp has outdone himself. Although we only get glimpses of the world he has created, I can’t help but pick up on a Halo vibe, which is interesting considering his name has been attached to a Halo feature film on more than one occasion.
about Elysium, from IMDB
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Interesting tidbit – I see from the Elysium IMDB entry that both William Fichtner (Contact, The Dark Knight) and Michael Shanks (Stargate) are listed in the cast as well. I’m intrigued to see how big of a role they will each have.
What do you think? Is this a must see or meh?
Blomkamp also wrote District 9, which was a good short but felt forced as a feature. I’m not sure about him yet as a feature Director.
The trailer has sparked my interest.
