Or as we like to call it: A Day of Nerd Infamy. Yesterday morning, as word on the Twittersphere spread, we saw everyone waking up and gearing up to tackle Saturday with two thoughts on their minds…..Free Comic Book Day and Star Wars Day! Indeed this could have easily been just another day of cartoons, Xbox, and ramen BUT there was swag to grab! So I loaded up and struck out on a gorgeous Houston morning. I headed to our local mecca, Bedrock City Comic Company to hunt down the awesome finds and giveaways.
Walking through the doors, I had a huge Cheshire smile across my face and took in the sights of my fellow comic book revelers. There was lots to see and even more to pickup and/or purchase. The Bedrock staff was available and ready to graciously take care of customers in every aspect of FCBD. I saw some engaging in great discussions of which issues should be filled first in collection gaps while another Bedrock City staff member kindly assisted a mother and her young daughter in deciding which of the free comics were age appropriate for her. People picked up their free issues and also browsed the well-kept and organized selection of series, collections, graphic novels, and superhero accessories. All in all, it was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday surrounded by fans of a universe so many of us cherish.
Did you attend a free comic book day? Let us know what shops you ventured to or what items you picked up in the comments below!
Bummed I had to miss the big day (traveling). Looks like it was a great day. I saw tons of photos on instagram of people with their comics and other swag.
FCBD is such a great idea and I know I WILL NOT miss it next year.
Thanks for sharing Steve.
