It doesn’t seem that long ago when it was a normal thing to call some pals over and do a little face-melting with your axe on the weekend. Or put another way – play some Guitar Hero. As big fans of the game and it’s several different versions, we’d love to see the franchise make a comeback. FPS games are super cool and all but every now and then a guy’s got to do a a little shredding. Know what I mean?
Though it’s been quite sometime since we last played those musical games like GH, we may need to start doing some finger stretches. According to Kotaku, they have “learned from two separate sources that Activision has a new Guitar Hero game in development, reportedly for this year.”
But wait….there’s more:
The new title, which one source says will be announced at E3 this year, takes a “more realistic” approach than previous Guitar Hero games, all of which have had a cartoonish visual style. Crowds and performers will look more in-line with real life. We were told that there are new guitar peripherals in development for the title, and both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were mentioned. It is reportedly due for an E3 announcement and a full release before the end of the year.
The potential news is a welcome breathe of fresh air. In a video game market pretty much dominated by FPS and racing games, loading a new Guitar Hero game that’s been polished for the new consoles would have us pretty stoked! And I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be the only ones. As great news as this is though, don’t get that mohawk just yet. Activision did reply to Kotaku about the rumor and said “We don’t comment on rumour or speculation, but have previously said, that as one of the most beloved entertainment franchises, we would only bring Guitar Hero back if we developed the right innovations to usher the franchise into the new generation of gaming.”
Okay Activision. We’ll see you at E3.
