Marvel [Officially] Goes with Vin Diesel to Voice Groot in “Guardians of the Galaxy”

Yup, we know what you’re thinking: “Duh!” But it’s always nice when we hear the word “official” because these days you just don’t know. Saturday night, Marvel announced that Vin Diesel is officially going to do the voice for the character Groot in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Diesel, who’s made a huge name for himself with the FF and Riddick franchises, has done voice work before. This includes lending his voice to a few video games but many fans know his voice from the film Iron Giant where his deep gravel-like voice brought the big robot to life.

We’ve been hearing this announcement in it’s rumor form for a while, along with seeing and hearing the actor’s sly smile and coy remarks anytime Groot was brought up so this really comes as no surprise. The news, pre-official and after, is a welcomed hit with fans of the actor everywhere. Sully and I attended SDCC earlier this year and in the Riddick panel, someone from the audience asked him a question about doing a voice in a “Marvel” movie. Hall H erupted with cheers and the actor could only smile but what was funny is that he really never said “no”. Pretty cool…

He joins a pretty impressive cast already along with Chris Pratt, Benicio Del Toro, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and more in Guardians of the Galaxy which hits theaters August 1, 2014.

  1. I am happy to see Vin Diesel finally in a Marvel Movie. Although I would really like him to play Drizzt in a Forgotten Realms movie.

  2. I like that its locked in now, even though we were all pretty sure it was done.

  3. Vin is one of my favourite actors, and I’m excited that he is finally in a Marvel movie.
