A co-worker asked me today if I had seen the trailer for an upcoming Netflix show called Stranger Things. I told him I hadn’t and he said that I should. He said the trailer reminded him of a mix between Super 8 and The Goonies.
That did it. I watched it right then and there and was an instant fan of the intrigue, look, and feel of the show’s trailer. It practically dripped with Spielberg. It did bring back memories of Super 8 and The Goonies but it also had hints of The X-Files and Wayward Pines – another two shows I’m a big fan of. Even more to my delight was when Winona Ryder came out. As you can see from Stranger Things trailer above, the show looks to mix elements of government conspiracy, crime, and indeed some paranormal aspects. Over on The Verge, they have an article up mentioning that Stranger Things “looks like the show Steven Spielberg and Stephen King never made.”
On July 15th, we’ll see.
