Ottawa Comiccon 2016 – Nerd Fu Heads to Canada

We are right in the middle of con season and the Nerd Fu crew is prepping for a series of amazing conventions. For the next adventure, I will head all the way to Cananda for Ottawa Comiccon. You might not have heard much about the five year old convention, but it is growing fast and year-after-year has continued to stock the lineup with amazing guests and vendors.

I posted from Ottawa Comiccon in 2013 and, thanks to some friends who stepped in at the last minute, we were able to bring you some awesome photos and panel coverage from 2014 as well. I’m really excited to return to OCC this year and hope you’ll follow along.

ABOUT OTTAWA COMICCON

Ottawa Comiccon is a pop-culture fan convention that showcases artists and products from entertainment genres like: Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, Gaming in all its forms, and, of course, Comic Books. OCC is a spin-off of the Montreal Comiccon and first launched in 2012.  Attendance has risen every year, peaking at 42,000 in 2015.

This year’s con runs from Friday, May 13th to Sunday, May 15th at the EY Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

WHAT/WHO WILL WE SEE AT OTTAWA COMICCON

Celebrity Guests – Ottawa Comicon has outdone themselves this year, with another outstanding lineup, including the “Guests of Honour” Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy) & Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and featured guests Alan Tudyk, Alex Kingston (cancelled 5-09-16), Arthur Darvill, Billy Dee Williams, Caity Lotz, Carl Weathers, Eliza Dushku, John de Lancie, John Rhys-Davies, Kevin Eastman, Lou Ferrigno, Sean Astin, Tia Carrere and Tom Payne.

Panels – Celebrity Q&A will be going on all three days at Ottawa Comiccon. An official schedule has not yet been published, but should be available soon.  Expect to see many of the Celebrity Guests” mentioned above on the list.

• Doctor Who Event – In addition to the standard panel offerings that you would expect to find at most conventions, Ottawa has scheduled a special Doctor Who Q&A Event. “The Ponds” features Alex Kingston (cancelled 5-09-16), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and Arthur Darrell (Rory Williams) together on stage. This is a separate, ticketed event scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. and tickets are on sale now.

Masquerade – Don’t miss out on Saturday’s BIG event: The Masquerade is the place to show off your talents in costume making. Saturday, May 14th (currently just listed as “evening”). A separate “Masquerade Awards” panel happens Sunday, May 15th.

Geek Universe Concert – The Film Music Wind Orchestra will help the audience (re)discover the soundtracks of many films at the GEEK UNIVERSE concert. By travelling to different universes such as Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who and The Avengers, the OVMF will make you live an epic concert that will bring together all types of geeks! Friday, May 13th at 8:00 pm. **This is a separate, ticketed event
