TFAW – Things From Another World
I stumbled onto TFAW.com a few weeks ago while researching the idea of investing in comics (more on that soon). As with most new sites, I was a little apprehensive and even talked about that on one of the Nerd Fu podcasts. I didn’t know anyone who had ordered from them and I sure didn’t want to get a bunch of books in the mail that were damaged. I hate dealing with returns and the customer service for most sites is horrific, but I decided that I needed to “take one for Team NERD” and place an order.
There were a few things about the TFAW website that really got my attention and really couldn’t be overlooked
- The website is very clean & easy to navigate (that goes a long way in my book)
- What a selection – TFAW has so much to choose from, including tons of pre-order options
- Discounts – all pre-order comics that I have looked at are 20% off and in-stock books range from 10-35% off
- Options – once you create an account, there are tons of options to help you customize your order preferences
- Choose your own delivery frequency (this helps cut down on shipping)
- Choose to have all your comics bagged and boarded
- You can subscribe to the comics you know you want to get every time
Like I said, the site “spoke” to me enough to give it a chance, so I did.
MY FIRST ORDER WITH TFAW
For my first interaction with TFAW, I ordered 11 comic books. I decided to hold off on any toys or other items until I checked out something that wasn’t too expensive.
All I can say is Wow! TFAW promised and they delivered, above my expectations.
My package arrived via USPS (which usually scares me) and the packaging looked great. Then, I opened it up to find that TFAW had taken the time to wrap my comics in multiple layers and use packaging that REALLY protected the comics inside from any falls or careless mailmen.

Every comic in every bag was MINT. No dinged corners, no creases, no signs of damage AT ALL! They even tossed in an Image comics preview issue – something that I had never seen before.

Will I order from TFAW again. YES! and I already have. I’ve got a dozen or more comics queued up and ready to be delivered on my next shipment and if things continue to go this well on future shipments, TFAW will be getting ALL of my orders from here on out.

I ASK BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE TO GET MY COMICS, TPB AND HARDCOVERS IN MINT CONDITION. I’VE DEALT WITH OTHER PLACES; TALES OF WONDER USED TO BE GREAT UNTIL THEY SOLD IT TO ANOTHER COMPANY ABOUT TWO YEARS BACK. I’VE TRIED MIDTOWN COMICS/CHEAP GRAPHIC NOVELS AND OTHERS AND MOST PLACES REALLY GIVE YOU A HASSLE ABOUT INSPECTING BOOKS FOR CONDITION AND THEN HALF THE TIME THE BOOKS HAVE DAMAGE AND THEN THEY HASSLE YOU ABOUT RETURNS.
I PURCHASED 2 COPIESOF THE CREEPY ARHIVES HARDCOVER FROM TFAW. BOTH COPIES HAD DENTS TO THE COVERS. THEY GAVE ME A REFUND – BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I COULD BOTHER THEM WITH RETURNS.
I SEE THE POST WAS FROM A YEAR AGO – SO I DON’T KNOW IF YOU CHECK THESE QUESTIONS.
DO YOU STILL THINK TFAW IS THE BEST?

Thanks for reaching out with your questions. I have been ordering from TFAW regularly (I get two shipments a month from them) and I am more in love with their service than ever. I can honestly say that the quality of the comics I receive and the quality of the packaging is light-years ahead of any other vendor I have ordered from.
I’ve tried Midtown Comics a few times and I am done with them. Half of the books I have received from them have been damaged. Apparently they cannot be bothered to seal the tops of bags, so the comics shift around and get damaged in transit.
In all of the orders I’ve received from TFAW, only one or two books have ever been damaged, and TFAW quickly resolved the issue.
To be fair, I have not ordered any hardcover books from them. I’m really surprised to hear that the books you received were damaged. It doesn’t sound like the TFAW I know at all.
I only order from TFAW and pick up books at my local comic shops now (so I can look at them myself). No one else seems to deliver the same quality.

If their service changed, like what you went through with Tales of Wonder, I would stop ordering from them and take down this review.

I THOUGHT TOO, THAT MAYBE THE 2 BOOKS I RECEIVED WERE JUST BAD LUCK AND THAT OVERALL, TFAW WOULD BE THE WAY TO GO. I CAN SAY THAT THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY GREAT WITH THE REFUND.
I GUESS AS COLLECTORS THE FIRST AND BEST CHOICE IS ALWAYS TO SEE IT YOURSELF – HANDPICK THE COPY YOU WANT. WHEN POSSIBLE I DO GO TO MY COMIC STORE – IT’S ABOUT 15 MILES EACH WAY. OVER THE YEARS THERE’S BEEN TIMES WHERE I START TO GET A LITTLE LAZY AND SAY “I NEED MAIL ORDER SERVICE!” THAT’S WHERE THE ONLINE PLACES COME IN.
I’M GOING TO PLACE SOME ORDERS WITH TFAW FOR EITHER COMICS AND/OR TPB AND H/C. I HOPE I HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE AND I BECOME A REGULAR WITH THEM.
