Netflix recently released the official trailer for it’s new original film To the Bone, which takes a look at a young woman’s struggle with anorexia. Ellen, played by Lily Collins, may have the uncanny ability to call out calorie counts like no one else but there’s a larger issue at hand that needs to remedied for the sake of her health. When other avenues of change fail for her, help is seeked out by means of a new treatment facility that utilizes a group home atmosphere for young adults. Leading the unconventional method here is an conventional doctor played by Keanu Reeves. A new change in scenery and a new doctor could definitely make an impact, but Ellen knows it’s going to have to start with her.
The film received rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival this year and holds a special place to director/writer Marti Noxon’s heart. When talking with Entertainment Weekly about To the Bone, she added this note:
What I’m trying to do is bring understanding and compassion to an issue that touches way more people than we realize,” she wrote. “And I want more people to talk about how much food and body image affect men and women and keep us from loving the moment we’re in.
